way of commenting
Published on November 16, 2004 By pinchecl In WinCustomize Talk
Somehow the last few days I get comments in a way I don't really like. Of course people may like or dislike my submissions but I expect a little respect from both. Now check this out. I think this isn't a way to comment! http://pinchecl.wincustomize.com/viewskin.aspx?SID=4398&skinid=18112&libid=8&comments=1&UID=72493

That wasn't a critique. How unpleasant and should go away. Knowing this site, it will.

Those sorts of comments are more than likely going to be removed as soon as they are pointed out to a site admin I'd guess. But you're right, it's not the way to comment. I think you handled your responses very well though

Tnx slinky and Scarebear. And sure, I know and trust this sites admins to remove htis kind of comments but it's a pity to have to take action to do so. This kind of comment shouldn't be here at all......And again, I'ld like people to criticize what I do but just with a normal amount of respect!

The comments are gone, and their ability to comment further, removed.

If you have any more problems please e-mail me - I will drop on any offenders like a ton of bricks

Don't take it to heart Cliff. The sad truth is that in any given population a certain percentage will be "socially inept" and given that wincustomize has a rapidly growing membership (1.7 million members...and counting...) to draw upon I'm afraid the chances of getting a rude comment get ever higher. It is upsetting from time to time but the overwhelming mass of comments are generally encouraging and friendly and the nasty comments have to be taken in that context or we will all go mad

And there's always the tonnage of Mr Logic to fall back on

tnx for acting fuzzy, and I will use email in the future(although I hope I won't need it.....). And tnx tiggz, you are right about both the rude and the friendly comments. Still, it's frustrating if people react that way. Oh well, have to get used to that I suppose

Cliff, I'm going to give you something to think about. You and the other artists share your creations with us, hoping they will be appreciated or at least recieve constructive criticism. Just as your artwork is an extension of your soul, so are the words coming from those who comment, in my mind, this shows me that someone who dumps a bunch of negitivity has no respect or compassion for his fellow human beings. With this in mind, I find that kind of person is displaying there own ignorance and is someone who is deffinitely not worth listening to! Anyone who has created something weather it be a painting, piece of music, novel, etc. will understand the deep hurt is causes when you critize the artist instead of the artwork. Keep you chin up, those who speek well of you are the ones worth listening to!

It is unfortunate that some people just have no concept of how to be civil.

People who can't be polite or appreciative should not be allowed to comment at all. As a skinner myself, I know that it really REALLY annoys me when someone comes on and trashes my hard work.

I'm thankful that most people are glad that skinners take th time to share with the world their creative endeavors. But those who are thoughtless and rude should not have the priviledge of being able to comment at all.

don't sweat it Cliff. Your one of the best artists on this site. Just let it roll.

Thanks for all those kind words people. It's nice to see most people do appreciate the work that is involved whether it is good or not. And to be completely clear: I welcome critics on my work because I think that can only make you grow. It's the tone that makes the message!

Is there any way for us to control the comments placed on one of our skins?

IE: can we delete a comment, or is it possible to edit one and remove certain "words"?

I think this could help keep this kind of junk out of here. If we can delete junk comments like this, then it would help to eliminate people being forced to see these things. My 9 year old looks at my skins on here, and I'd hate to have him see some looser taking their 12 year old brain out for a test drive on one of my skins.

Just a suggestion.

I dont think it'd be a good idea.....there are some people who would definately abuse the privelege.

As much I have at times wished I had such control, I still think CerebroJD is right. That sort of control should be left in the hands of the people running the site. If you have the ability to remove certain comments etc, you can throw out the flow of the page.

e.g. if you removed post #11 now, mine wouldn't make sense to anyone reading the thread from start to finish

Having said that, I too have kids and understand your reason for asking for such control.
on Nov 25, 2004
Well, the good thing of it all is that it is obvious that the lot of you/us agree on the way people should (not) comment. Together with the commonly rapid reactions of the admins on the abusing kind of comments to me that is enough reason not to want any kind of editing possibility.

Thats kewl,

Its just amazing to me how lame people can be in a "public" forum, simply because you cant see their face, and they cant see mine. If they were standing next to me and had the oppertunities to say the things they would say what they "TYPE" here, I doubt they wouldnt.

Oh well, gotta love the internet!
